Funding Call:

Flexible Funding for Cooperation with the University of Melbourne

The Berlin University Alliance aims at fostering international research collaboration with renowned international universities promoting academic excellence, and engaging in dialogue with institutions worldwide.

To guarantee sustainable collaboration this funding scheme aims at existing research collaboration to deepen previous work with the potential of high impact/visibility for the Berlin University Alliance.

Timeline

  • Call opens: 13 January 2025
  • Call closes: 25 February 2025
  • Project start: 01 April 2025 (earliest)
  • Project end: 28 November 2025

Funding and Eligible Costs

  • Maximum funding: EUR 5,000 per project
  • Funds: The approved funds are designated as budgetary funds (“Haushaltsmittel”) and are exclusively earmarked for material costs (i.e. not staffing costs).
  • Formats: preparation of joint publications, organization of workshops and/or exhibitions, and beyond. Please note that funding is not available for conference attendance as a stand-alone activity.
  • Period of funding: The grants support activities to be conducted in 2025. All activities must conclude by the end of November 2025.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Existing collaboration: e.g. joint publication, co-supervision of PhD students, previous funded project
  • Application in tandems: tandems consisting of one professor or postdoctoral researcher from both the Berlin University Alliance institutions (Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin) and the University of Melbourne
  • Submission of Applications:
    • joint application by partners from both universities
    • CVs of the collaborators (no longer than two pages each).
    • Track of record e.g. joint publication, co-supervision of PhD students, previous funded project

Timeline and Application Process

  • Application: Description of your project, joint activities, and the pursued goal
  • Decision: Can be expected in March 2025
  • Submission: Please submit the online application form and send the budget sheet and the CVs and the completed budget sheet (in the download section at the bottom of the page) to Kathinka Rosenkranz -Coordinator BUA Joint Partnerships, Melbourne and Singapore - to apply for the grant.
  • Prerequisites: Upon completion of the selection procedure, allocated grant funds will be disbursed to the relevant faculty or department overseeing the project. A valid cost center at one of the affiliated institutions is mandatory for fund transfer.

Selection Committee and Procedure

The selection committee, comprising individuals from CCT8, evaluates proposals based on specified criteria:

  • Range of Initiatives and Disciplines (including the added value of the collaboration between Berlin and Melbourne)
  • Sustainability of the Initiative (including the potential for further third party funding)
  • Diversity and Inclusion

In the event of a positive review, you will receive feedback from us via email with further information on the allocation of funds. A brief informal report will be required at the conclusion of the collaboration.
